Summary of Class

01

Theory of Phlebotomy

Provides an introduction to the equipment and techniques commonly used to obtain blood specimens for analysis through self-study modules.

04

Tubes and Anticoagulants

Most blood collection tubes contain an additive that either accelerates clotting of the blood (clot activator) or prevents the blood from clotting (anticoagulant).

02

Flow of Blood

Have the patient make a fist and flex the arm, which helps engorge muscles to fill veins. Pre-warm the region of the vein to reduce vasoconstriction and increase blood flow.

05

National Certified Exam

Let's get you ready to take your exam. A new career path is headed your way!

03

Order of Draw

As you may already know, blood must be drawn and collected in tubes in a specific order, known as the Order of Draw. This is necessary to avoid cross-contamination of additives between the tubes.

06

Venipuncture on Mannequin and Human

Traditionally, training in phlebotomy has consisted of practice on mannequin training arms.
